MEN’S SOCCER
Ty Dalton is used to being chased down by his opponents, not his own teammates.
The senior from Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Hope College men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Trine University in the MIAA Tournament championship game on Saturday. Dalton sprinted so fast down the field that it took a second for his teammates to catch up to him and mob the midfielder.
The third-seeded Flying Dutchmen claimed their third MIAA Tournament title since the format began 10 years ago. They previously won in 2013 and 2011.
Hope finished a truncated spring season with a 5-1-1 record.
