HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 31-year-old Whitehall man on a Harley Davidson and his passenger, a 29-year-old Muskegon woman were critically injured in a Ferrysburg crash Sunday, April 25, 2021, according to police.
The crash happened near M-104, where there is a construction zone, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Hallmeyer.
Police were summoned at about 6:45 p.m., according to Hallmeyer. The initial crash investigation indicated the Whitehall man appears to have lost control, police said, drifting in the southbound lanes of US 31, crashing and sliding across the pavement into a southbound Mercury Sable, with a 39-year-old West Olive man at the wheel.
No one in the Mercury was hurt.
The Whitehall man went by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital, and was transferred to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in critical condition, according to police. The Muskegon woman went by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon with what police called life-threatening injuries.
Though the crash remains under investigation, Hallmeyer indicated alcohol may have been a factor.
Spring Lake and Ferrysburg firefighters, Grand Haven police officers, EMTs from North Ottawa Community Hospital and Michigan Dept. of Transportation officials also responded to the scene.
