WOMEN’S SOCCER
Sarah Mikesell made sure the Hope College women’s soccer team would live to play another day.
The junior from Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) scored late in the second half to give Hope a 2-0 win over Alma College on Monday night to advance in the MIAA Tournament.
The Flying Dutch moves on to play at Kalamazoo College on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Hope (4-1-1) beat the Hornets 1-0 on April 12. Alma falls to 3-5.
Mikesell took her defender one-on-one and from the left side of the net and booted the ball on the lower right corner for her second goal of the season and the ninth of her career.
Freshman Natalie Hammer (Rockford, Michigan/Rockford) scored in the first half for Hope.

Nick Hoffman Named MIAA Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Hope College’s Nick Hoffman has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
The junior public accounting major from Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) is receiving the honor for the first time as an outdoor athlete. He has been MIAA Indoor Track Athlete of the Week three times in his career.
Hoffman finished second in the 1,500 meters at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic last weekend.
Hoffman recorded a career-best time of 3 minutes, 49.48 seconds in a field of NCAA Division II and Division III runners. He was within three seconds of the school record set by Ryan Terlouw in 2007.
Hoffman also clocked an 800-meter time of 1:59.22 that was good for 21st.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
Hope College’s Ana Tucker has been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
The sophomore exercise science major from Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow HS) is claiming the award for the first time as an outdoor athlete. Tucker previously had been recognized as MIAA Track Athlete of the Week twice as an individual and once as a relay.
Tucker clocked the third-fastest time in the 1,500 meters at the Grand Valley State University Al Owens Classic last weekend.
Her time of 4 minutes, 32.94 seconds was surpassed only by two runners from Western Michigan University.
Tucker came within 1.12 seconds of the school record set in 2014 by Sheri McCormack.
