KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – “The Recovery Strengthens.”
So says Dr. Brian Long, director of Supply Management Research at Grand Valley State University, who surveys purchasing managers in Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo to comprise his monthly “Current Business Trends” report on the West Michigan economy. Using an old adage “that a rising tide floats all boats,” he believes that the region has been swept up by the world economy continuing to recover from the COVID 19 recession, but not all aspects of the local economy have been caught up in it.
“We make a lot of office furniture on this side of the state of Michigan, and we’re not doing as well because we’re redefining what the office is,” Long said on “WHTC Morning News” during his monthly appearance on Monday (Apr. 12, 2021). “Our main cyclical industry, which is automotive parts, has more than recovered, and in fact has excess demand in some quarters.”
Long’s survey showed the indexes of new orders, production, purchases, lead times and prices all rose in March as compared to February.
