LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined by half a percentage point during February to 5.2 percent, according to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
The state’s labor force experienced a second consecutive month of labor force withdrawal, down by 42,000. Michigan’s jobless rate reduction primarily reflected fewer people active in the labor market, according to the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. A separate business survey also revealed a significant level of job recalls in the restaurant industry in February.
The unemployment rate in the U.S. inched down in February by one-tenth of a percentage point to 6.2 percent. Michigan’s jobless rate is a full percentage point below the national rate.
