Lorraine Rose (Sullivan) Maki, 93, passed away March 13, 2021, in Holland, MI. Born and raised in Calumet, MI, to David and Ursula (Lanctot) Sullivan, Lorraine was the loving wife of Joseph Lawrence Maki (deceased 1974) and mother of Keith Allan Maki, Gail Lynn (Maki) Long (deceased 2006), and Dee Ann (Maki) Kuhn.
Additional loving family members who will cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law Christi Jo (Bouman) Maki and sons-in-law Kenneth Phillip Long and Frederick Anthony Kuhn, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Joseph (Joe) Allan Maki, Jenna Anne Maki, and Jessica Jo Maki; Jack Ryan Long; and MacKenzie Rose Kuhn and Griffin Patrick Kuhn.
Lorraine was also known as Sully, Lorr, Mrs. Maki, Mrs. Mac, Aunt Lorraine, and, of course, most dearly as Mom and Grandma. She was the last of eight Sullivan children to leave this earth, preceded in death by brothers Roland, Morell, Paul, and David Sullivan and sisters Norine (Sullivan) Smale, LaVerne (Sullivan) Wygocki, and Dolores Sullivan.
To say that Lorraine lived life to the fullest would be an understatement. She traveled frequently, visited many European countries, and had wonderful adventures, including kissing the famed Blarney Stone in Ireland. She held wonderful dinner parties and entertained family and friends often. Her granddaughters will always remember her elegant tea parties held in their honor and all of her family will remember her love of picnics. A true U of M Wolverine fan, Lorraine loved nothing better than spending her autumn Saturday afternoons watching college football. Lorraine worked as a bookkeeper for the J.C. Cornillie Co., in Detroit and St. Clair Shores for 50 years, serving three generations of Cornillie families.
In her 93 years, Lorraine amassed countless friends and nurtured those relationships throughout her life. She is outlived only by her dearest and best friend Tina (Lencioni) Kilberg, a friend since childhood.
She greatly loved her many nieces and nephews, as well as her children’s friends, all of whom she so eagerly embraced and welcomed into her life. So very proud of her Irish heritage, Lorraine will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with her husband Joe, daughter Gail and all of her Sullivan family.
Lorraine’s son Keith and daughter Dee Ann would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Lorraine’s care team at Resthaven Care Center in Holland, where she spent her final days. They also wish to express their heartfelt appreciation to her care team at Hospice of Holland, who collectively guided Lorraine throughout her days with love and kindness.
Memorial services for Lorraine are planned at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Holland. MI, Saturday, March 27,2021 at 11:00am. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.
The family asks that expressions of sympathy be given to Hospice of Holland.
