WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – “2020 was a very difficult year for everyone”
That set the tone for the 16th State of the County remarks by Ottawa County Administrator Al Vanderberg during yesterday’s biweekly County Board meeting. Citing Lake Michigan shoreline erosion, the COVID 19 outbreak, flooding in areas that hadn’t experienced it before, and the tensions stemming from the Memorial Day death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Vanderberg said that county staffers handled adversity well.
“Our employees, our departments are very resilient,” he said in commenting on his formal statement. “They’re able to respond, be creative, be innovative, and to do everything they could to both protect people and provide services throughout what was a very difficult year.”
Some of the “issues to watch” in 2021 for the county including creation of a formal Groundwater Board, the impact of immigration population on the economy, continued progress on the Justice Center and more.
