NEWAYGO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A West Michigan school was evacuated, and several people were injured Monday, after a student who brought a homemade explosive device to school accidentally detonated it in a classroom.
Police say the teenager and five other people were injured, including a teacher at Newaygo High School. The Superintendent says the 16-year-old showed a “serious lack of judgment” even though it was an accident and that he wasn’t intending to hurt anyone.
There’s no word yet on potential charges or what the school might do related to that student’s actions. He suffered “moderate to severe injuries” in the explosion while the others who were hurt had what are described as minor injuries.
