ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man charged in the death of his teenaged adopted daughter in the late 1980’s has admitted to killing her and hiding the body, according to a report by MLive Monday.
Former Hamilton resident Dennis Bowman, 71, is serving two life sentences for his role in the 1980 rape and murder of 25-year-old Kathleen Doyle of Norfolk, VA. She was the wife of a US Navy officer who was deployed at the time of her death.
Following that arrest, police began investigating the 1989 disappearance of his 14-year-old adopted daughter, Aundria Bowman.
During an Allegan County District Court session on Monday, Bowman admitted to striking Aundria during an argument, which resulted in her falling down a flight of stairs to her death. Afterwards, Bowman dismembered the body and buried her remains in the backyard of his home.
He later reported her missing, saying she had run away from home. When he and his wife later moved to a new house, Bowman admitted to retrieving her remains and then reburying them.
His wife, Brenda Bowman, testified in court, saying he admitted his role in the crime to her in February of 2020.
Bowman is set to stand trial in Allegan County District Court on an open murder charge for Aundria Bowman’s death.
