Nancy Lea Looman, 80, died Monday, February 15, 2021, at Allegan County Medical Care Community after a long battle with dementia.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Terry Looman; children, Tim and Renee Looman, Jana (Looman) and Robb Blain, and Ryan and Cheryl Looman; grandchildren, Lorin and Robby Blain, Wyatt Looman, and Hunter Looman; brothers, Dale and Jane Bush and Richard and Bobbie Bush; sisters, JoAnn Moore and Sally Joostberns; brother-in-law, Kathy, and Bill Looman; sister-in-law, Kay Looman. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, who all adored time spent with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Besse Bush.
Nancy graduated from Fennville School in 1958 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University in 1962. From there she taught three years in Rockford Public Schools, then three years at Fennville, where she met and married her husband, Terry, in June of 1965. After teaching early elementary for 27 years at Lawton Elementary School, she and her husband retired to their house on Hutchins Lake, where she substituted at Fennville from time to time and tutored many children in her home.
Nancy was a champion of children and believed in their abilities, big or small. She loved to cook, was an avid reader, and loved picking all the local fruits each season. Nancy enjoyed her retirement with grandkids, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children canning, playing games, cards, watching Wheel of Fortune, hosting school on the deck, and many sleepovers.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in Nancy’s name can be made to Allegan County Medical Care Community at 3265 122nd Ave. Allegan, MI 49010.
