DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Gordie Howe International Bridge will take place Friday, according to reports from the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News.
Both Governor Gretchen Whitmer and former Governor Rick Snyder are expected to be among the attendees.
The new bridge will open to traffic on Monday.
Whitmer and President Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles discussed the bridge opening yesterday.
Trump had been threatening to prevent the span from opening without Canada making concessions.
Former Governor Snyder negotiated the bridge with the Canadian federal government, with them paying for the construction and Michigan repaying Canada through tolls collected. The bridge will be owned by both countries at 50% when the state’s debt is paid. Trump wanted Canada to give ownership of the span to the U.S., but was not successful.
