PORT SHELDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2026) – A 21-year-old Grand Rapids man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash between Holland and Grand Haven around dawn on Wednesday.
No name was initially given by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Tyler VanDoeselaar following the wreck off of Port Sheldon Street near 152nd Avenue around 7 AM. Port Sheldon Street is being repaved in that area, with one half being sand and the other half gravel.
The westbound vehicle was in the eastbound gravel lane when, for an undisclosed reason at this point, it veered to the right and into the sand. It then lost control, rolled over, and the apparently unbuckled driver was thrown out of the window to his death at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact Ottawa County Central Dispatch (800-249-0911) or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
