HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2026) – There may be a cease fire agreement reached in the current Middle East conflict, but don’t expect gas prices to fall anytime soon.
The US Energy Information Administration said on Tuesday that restoring full flows of oil through the Strait of Hormuz will take months, keeping fuel prices higher until output can return to normal. Triple-A puts today’s nationwide average for a gallon of regular unleaded at $4.16, up ten cents from a week ago, while Michigan is at $4.08.
This also has an impact on fuel for airplanes, according to Matt Neyens, manager of the West Michigan Regional Airport.
Neyens is hopeful that high fuel costs won’t hurt efforts to hold a “fly in” at the airport slated for Saturday, May 2nd, a promotion to bring more air travelers here for the Tulip Time Festival, with shuttle bus service from the facility to the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place slated through Allegan County Transportation. He added that the service that day will also be available for all visitors who wish to park their vehicles at the airport and take the buses downtown.
