PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 20, 2026) – It is one thing to own property, but it’s another to show such ownership to the general public.
On Thursday morning, Park Township Fire Department staffers put up a new sign at their Marine Division station, formally designating the former Coast Guard post off of Ottawa Beach Road as the new home for its rescue and service operations. It’s the latest move in converting the facility to such purposes, with plans to clean up the building’s interior, repair an exterior stairway, and upgrade the restrooms, with a projected opening ceremony set for sometime next month.
Three weeks ago, the township completed the $1.4 million, nearly year-long process of purchasing the site from the US government. It will house a full-time EMS unit, be a stage for emergency rescues, and help improve response time during the spring and summer months. Two full-time firefighters will be on hand, while the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division and the state Department of Natural Resources will also have access to the facility.
