HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 19, 2026) – A 25-year-old woman and her 25-year-old boyfriend were hospitalized in a somewhat strange incident at VanRaalte Farm Park on Thursday afternoon.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, an officer, along with firefighters, were dispatched around 2:10 PM. The couple apparently were sitting on a downed tree branch next to the North Branch of the Macatawa River, and when they were trying to get up, the branch rolled forward, knocking the woman over into the water. In the process, the branch rolled onto her leg, pinning her down. The boyfriend went into the water in an unsuccessful effort to free her before first responders arrived.
Firefighters deployed a chainsaw to cut the branch and safely freed the woman from her predicament. She and her boyfriend were taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening exposure to the cold waters.
No names were disclosed.
