LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 9, 2026) – The effort to strengthen ties between law enforcement and the educational community in Ottawa County has been bolstered.
Last Friday, 21 law enforcement officers from 18 entities completed five days of training in the Michigan State Police’s Teaching, Educating and Mentoring School Liaison Program, through the department’s Grants and Community Services Division. Those who participated in the 40-hour course received instruction in student/juvenile psychology, classroom management, and public speaking.
Among the 10 deputies from county sheriff’s offices who participated were some from Ottawa County. Undersheriff David Kok believes that having deputies in the schools enhances the strong community policing policy his office has had for many years.
The TEAM curriculum has been implemented in over 250 school districts in Michigan, as well as in several other states.
