WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 5, 2026) – A former Holland Mayor is now a federal government staffer.
On Tuesday, the US Office of Personnel Management announced the appointment of Kurt Dykstra as General Counsel. An attorney by trade, he served 10 years on the Holland City Council, including three terms as the Tulip City’s 40th mayor, before stepping down in mid-2015 to become the president of Trinity College in the Chicagoland area. Dykstra stayed there for seven years before assuming a similar position with the Independent Colleges of Indiana in Indianapolis, but he resigned after just eight months there. Last fall, he was a finalist for the Ottawa County Administrator vacancy, but was bypassed in favor of Patrick Waterman.
Dykstra will lead the Office of the General Counsel, advising the director and agency leadership on legal and policy matters.
