LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 4, 2026) – The matter of short-term rentals should be before the Laketown Township Planning Commission on Wednesday evening.
The panel is expected to continue discussions from last month on possible changes to the current ordinance. There is a current moratorium on new applications for free-standing STR homes through June 30th, as a special joint committee, made up of all of the township’s board members and planning commissioners, look to examine policies for possible changes.
The township has about 100 registered short-term rentals and there might be another 100 unregistered units, according to township officials. The changes are aimed at allowing STR in mixed-use zones, while limiting these in residential districts to attached units and detached accessory structures, with no allowance for residences used solely for STR purposes, which have seen the most problems and generated the most complaints from neighbors. Any ordinance changes must be approved by both the planners and the board.
The Laketown Township Planning Commission meets at 6:30 PM at the township hall (4338 Beeline Rd.). An online link for more information, including the agenda and supporting documents, is here.
