ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 4, 2026) – A 57-year-old Martin man has begun a multi-year prison sentence for the death of an eight-month-old girl near a lake on the Allegan/Van Buren county line last spring.
Terry Lee Boss had pleaded no contest to a second-degree murder in a deal with prosecutors that had counts of operating while intoxicated causing death, and reckless driving causing death, dropped. Judge Emily Jipp in 48th Circuit Court on Monday sentenced him to at least 13 and a half years behind bars, at the request of the victim’s family, on a charge that could have placed Boss in prison for life.
On April 26th, he was driving a westbound truck on Hillside Drive, east of M-40, when he sideswiped a westbound vehicle and lost control. His truck then flipped over, hit several people that were away from the roadway, struck a tree, and finally came to rest in a shallow portion of Baseline Lake. One of the persons that were hit, Lucia Iris Seifried, died at the scene, while several others, including Boss, were hospitalized. Prosecutors say that he had a post-crash blood alcohol count of .22, nearly three times the legal limit.
