ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 1, 2026) – A new fire/rescue chief should be named in Zeeland on Monday.
During the biweekly City Council meeting, members will be asked to approve a $110,000 contract with Brad Deppe to become the municipality’s new operational leader of fire and rescue department. He emerged from a search process that stemmed from the departure of Ross Tibbets to Holland Township at the end of the past calendar year.
Deppe comes west from Wyoming, where he had served in that suburban Grand Rapids department for more than 25 years, rising to the position of Captain and Emergency Medical Technician. Should his appointment and contract be approved by Council, he would assume his new duties on March 23rd.
In addition, the governing panel will also be asked to approve a proposed resolution from City Manager Tim Klunder to ask state House Republican Brad Slagh, who represents Zeeland in the Lower Chamber, to support two pieces of legislation pertaining to commercial rehabilitation and redevelopment that had expired at the end of 2025 following 20 years. These tax incentives had been utilized extensively to spur growth in downtown Zeeland, and the Zeeland Township-based lawmaker is being asked to extend the use of these tools.
A 6 PM Work-Study Session precedes the 7 PM Regular Meeting of the Zeeland City Council, both in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
