PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 27, 2026) – The site of the former Coast Guard station in Holland will be busy with activity again.
On Wednesday, the purchase of the $1.4 million, two-floor building off of Ottawa Beach Road by Park Township was completed when a signed deed was received by municipal officials and recorded with the Ottawa County Register of Deeds office. It ended a nearly year-long effort to claim the property that was vacated by the US Coast Guard four years ago when its operations were consolidated with the Grand Haven station.
The township plans to clean up the interior of the building, built in 1992, do repairs to an exterior stairway, and possibly improve the restrooms. This will be done in order to house a full-time EMS unit, allow for staging of emergency rescues, and improve response times during the summer months. Two full-time firefighters will be on hand, with additional on-call personnel ready at a moment’s notice, while the Ottawa County Marine Division, along with members of the state Department of Natural Resources marine patrol, will also be able to utilize the facility.
Renovation work will begin next month, with an official opening ceremony planned for April.
