EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 17, 2026) – There may be no Lakeshore teams which will make it to the Breslin Center for the state high school boys basketball tournament finals on March 14th, but two area girls will be on hand to receive a prestigious honor.
Among 32 who will receive Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Awards in a ceremony at East Lansing are Maggie Rothstein of West Ottawa and Maggie Telgenhof of Holland, as they were named on Tuesday by association officials. Rothstein excelled in both golf and tennis with the Panthers, and is the senior class vice president, along with being on the Holland Youth Advisory Council. Telgenhof has captained the swimming/diving, basketball and softball teams with the Dutch, and is also on the HYAC. Both Maggies are planning to attend the University of Michigan this coming fall.
Rothstein and Telgenhof emerged from five from Lakeshore schools who were vying for the $2,000 competitive scholarships from Farm Bureau Insurance. Those who missed out included Rothstein’s sibling Drew, along with Andrew Legg of Holland and Dylan Becksvoort of Holland Christian. It’s the first time in four years that students from the Lakeshore earned this honor, when Ella Spooner of West Ottawa, along with Greta VanZetten and Elzien Zomer of Holland, were winners.
All four of the MHSAA boys basketball tournament championship games on March 14th can be heard on WHTC Holland’s Cool FM.
