GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 17, 2026) – A 31-year-old Holland man will spend 14 months behind bars, along with three years of probation, for assaulting a 23-year-old woman in a north side apartment unit late in 2024.
Angel Vazquez had pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder just before he was to go to trial last month in 20th Circuit Court. In accepting the deal with prosecutors on Monday, Judge Karen Miedema dismissed three other felony counts, along with a charge of being a four-time habitual offender, and the sentence could have been up to 10 years in prison, the maximum under state law.
Vasquez was charged following an incident at the Windmill Lakes complex in which the victim reportedly had to jump off of a second-floor balcony to escape the assault, and he was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene. The woman recovered from various injuries suffered in the incident.
