HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 22, 2026) – There were no major items of action to be taken by the Holland City Council during Wednesday night’s meeting, but what happened before the biweekly business session in Chambers at Holland City Hall was eventful.
The 29th annual Social Justice Awards was presented by the city’s Human Relations Department, honoring individuals and organizations “who exemplify the virtues of social justice by promoting equal opportunity and equal access for all residents.”
Earning this accolade were Kayla Geering in accessibility, Cynthia Martinez in education, Doug Zylstra in government relations, Reach for Recovery in health services, Holland/Zeeland Women who Care in community relations, and Diane Kooiker with a lifetime achievement award. The Holland Youth Advisory Council honored Ana Mongrio for students aged 13-19. Since 1998, 128 awards have been handed out.
