GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 19, 2026) – A 28-year-old Norton Shores man has been charged with inappropriate sexual conduct in incidents stemming back from this past August in the Grand Haven area.
According to a statement released on Monday by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Jacob Mucha, investigators were looking into reports that a military recruiter appeared to utilize his role to make contact with several teenaged girls from area schools, with sexual contact and inappropriate messaging occurring. On January 9th, enough evidence was apparently gathered against Nicholas Phelps, and he was subsequently arrested and arraigned on various charges. He was able to post $35,000 bond.
The matter remains under investigation, and anyone with any information, or who may have been in contact with Phelps, is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
