OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 14, 2026) – Could there be an Ottawa County Community Mental Health Authority in the future?
On Tuesday, on a 6-5 vote, County Commissioners approved a resolution setting three public hearing dates for input into whether the OCCMH will now answer to a separate authority, similar to that of the Road Commission and Central Dispatch, or to the County Board directly, as is the case right now.
Executive Director Dr. Michael Brashears believes that such an authority is needed.
Former Board Chairman Joe Moss of Hudsonville disagreed.
Another former Board Chairman, John Teeples of Jenison, spoke for the majority of his colleagues.
The 6 PM public hearings for the proposed Ottawa County Community Mental Health Authority are set for January 19th at the Spring Lake Community Center (15549 Cleveland St.), January 20th at the Georgetown Township Library (1525 Baldwin St.), and February 5th in the main conference room of the county’s Public Health building on Holland’s North Side (12251 James St.).
