OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 19, 2025) – Another legal loose end has apparently been tied up by the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners.
During Thursday’s meeting, the governing panel agreed to a $112,500 legal settlement with former Commissioner Chris Kleinjans in litigation the Holland Democrat had filed last year against then-board Chairman Joe Moss, along with Scott Korpak, Matthew Shane and Erin Moore of the Michigan State University Extention. Kleinjans had sued the four for allegedly forcing him out of a role as a nutrition instructor with the extension when he won a seat on the board in a special election of May of 2024.
The county board approved the settlement but didn’t go into the merits of the lawsuit, on the advice of current Chairman John Teeples.
Kleinjans, who is currently the community impact officer with the Allegan County Community Foundation and a declared candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 31st state Senate district race, has until Friday to approve the settlement.
