SHERIDAN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 16, 2025) – The identities of two Grand Haven men who lost their lives when their snowmobiles crashed into the waters of Round Lake north of Muskegon on Sunday were disclosed on Monday.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office say that Dan Meyers, the music director at Muskegon Community College, as well as Jason Aemmer, were staying at Meyers’ cabin near the lake when they went out on their sleds. Authorities were first notified around 12:30 AM from family members about their disappearance. About four hours later, a searcher found snowmobile tracks entering the ice on the lake off of Sugar Grove Road, with no tracks returning. After dawn, a snowmobile helmet was spotted several hundred yards off shore, and a drone was able to locate a hole in the ice. An airboat helped first responders get to the scene, and the bodies of the men were found in about six feet of water, with their snowmobiles submerged as well.
No injuries were reported among the first responders, although a state police diver fell through the ice, but was pulled out to safety without being hurt. The incident remains under investigation.
