OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 9, 2025) – A structural change to housing oversight in Ottawa County could be coming.
During Tuesday morning’s meeting of the county board’s Planning and Policy Committee, the members will consider a proposal, put forward by commissioners Josh Brugger and Doug Zylstra, to “reformulate” the county’s Housing Commission from its current five member, five-year term setup to that of 19 members, serving staggered three-year terms. Brugger and Zylstra believe the changes would make the panel stronger, more representative, and more responsive to address challenges in housing costs, workforce shortages, and increased demand in diverse housing types.
Should the committee endorse this proposal, the full Housing Commission would have to vote on whether to adopt these changes at its next scheduled meeting on January 8th. An online link to the Ottawa County Board’s Planning and Policy Committee 9 AM meeting (12220 Fillmore St.) is here.
