LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 9, 2025) – A new leader in state education is now in place.
Monday was the first day on the job for Glenn Maleyko as Michigan School Superintendent, replacing Michael Rice, who retired on October 4th, and taking over for Sue Carnell, who held down the seat in the interim. Maleyko comes from Dearborn, where he spent 30 years as a educator, and signed a three-year contract in September.
The new leader has made the rounds in Lansing, meeting with leaders among teachers unions and legislators, including Holland Republican Representative Nancy DeBoer, the chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee.
DeBoer added that she would like to talk with Maleyko this week about changes to Michigan’s health education standards made last month by the state Board of Education involving sex and health education.
