HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 13, 2025) – Shortly after the results of the November 4th municipal General Election were certified by the Ottawa County Board of Canvassers on Wednesday came an expected recount announcement.
The panel will reconvene on Monday at 10 AM in the Main Conference Room of the Ottawa County Administration Building in West Olive (12220 Fillmore St.) for the purpose of going over the 714 ballots submitted in the Third Ward Holland City Council race. Incumbent Bylinda Sol made the recount request after she had lost by eight votes to challenger Tim Marroquin.
It was the second closest margin among contested candidate races along the Lakeshore, only eclipsed by the six-vote difference between Russ Gardner and John Mayer for a Saugatuck City Council seat. Allegan County Canvassers on Wednesday also certified this most recent election results.
Marroquin, who was sworn into office this past Monday per Holland city charter rules, also announced on Wednesday his immediate resignation from the Holland Public School Board, where he had been its secretary. The district looks to fill the vacancy by the end of the month to serve the rest of his term, which runs through next year. Written submissions will be accepted through next Friday afternoon, November 21st, at the Holland Public Schools’ offices on the Holland High campus (320 W. 24th St.), with public candidate interviews to be held the following Monday, November 24th.
