LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 12, 2025) – The issue of short term rentals highlight Wednesday evening’s monthly Laketown Township Board of Trustees meeting agenda.
The governing panel will consider a recommendation by the entity’s Planning Commission to extend a moratorium on new applications for free-standing STR. Such a prohibition was put into place this past May, while a special joint committee met four times to discuss the matter.
The biggest issues appeared to be noise, traffic, improper commercial use of property in residential zones, and proper enforcement of rules. Planners agreed that more time is needed to come up with solutions that would be agreeable to all parties involved. If approved by trustees, the moratorium would be extended to June 30th.
The Board is also expected to decide on a $196,500 proposal by Lakeshore Concepts of Holland to build new stairs at Laketown Township beach, replacing steps that had been in place for more than three decades before they were removed earlier this year. Trustees will also consider the future of Interurban Transit Authority bus service to the township, with the possibility of a millage proposal to offset costs.
The Laketown Township Board of Trustees’ 6 PM regular meeting is at the Township Hall (4338 Beeline Rd.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
