ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 3, 2025) – Alcohol sales in Zeeland spotlight Monday’s City Council biweekly business meeting.
The governing panel will place, on first reading, two proposed ordinance amendments that would not only allow alcohol sales by the glass or bottle on Sundays, from 12 Noon to 2 AM on Mondays, but also allow alcohol at municipal parks within the downtown Social District, within rules and regulations of the Social District. There were comments pro and con on the Sunday alcohol proposal during Council’s last meeting two weeks ago, while city staff wants to use this occasion to review and update the current Social District Maintenance and Management Plan.
In addition, council will also consider a Commercial Rehabilitation Exemption Certificate Application by the Koele/Godfrey Investment Group to expand its current offices on East Main Avenue from one story to two story, a two million-dollar project. Also on the agenda is awarding a $3.7 million contract to Diversco Construction as part of rebuilding Church Street from Washington Avenue to the Clean Water Plant next year, as well as getting a Michigan Department of Transportation grant for rebuilding Church from the water plant to Central Avenue. That part of the project is out for bid, with a decision expected next month.
The Zeeland City Council has a 5:30 PM work-study session ahead of its 7 PM business meeting in chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
