GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 1, 2025) – Nobody was hurt as the main route between Holland and Grand Haven was blocked for several hours on Saturday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Joshua McCarthy, a northbound semi on US-31, driven by a 52-year-old man from Shipshewana, Indiana, apparently blew though a red light at Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) shortly before 8 AM and slammed into a SUV, driven by an 84-year-old West Olive man, which was turning right on the green light. The collision caused the semi to tip onto its side, blocking all of the northbound lanes, and compelling deputies to reroute traffic, while a tow truck worked to remove the big rig from the roadway.
The incident remains under investigation.
