OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 31, 2025) – Halloween is more than just a kids’ holiday.
It can be seen with specialty stores, featuring costumes and decorations, popping up after Labor Day, and traditional retailers setting aside targeted sections even earlier than that. The National Retail Federation estimates that consumer spending in America could reach a record $13.1 billion this year, or an average of over $114 per person.
The young and young at heart are fanning out in costume, and for law enforcement leaders such as Ottawa County Sheriff Eric DeBoer, their work in keeping people safe doesn’t end when the kids come home from trick-or-treating.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that, from 2019 through 2023, 198 people will killed in alcohol-related crashes on Halloween night, with more than half coming from those between ages 21 and 34.
