OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 27, 2025) – As the federal government shutdown reaches its four week mark on Tuesday, more and more services may be impacted the longer that funding from Washington continues to dry up.
Currently, the US Bureau of Consular Affairs, which handles passports, is funded by passport fees, and since it is considered an essential service, applications continue to be funded. While processing times remain at four to six weeks for routine service, and two to three weeks for expedited service, delays are possible, and federal sites not operated by the US State Department or the US Postal Service are currently closed.
With the holiday travel season approaching, Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck, whose office is handling passport services, says now is the time to get those matters in order.
Appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the County Administration Building (12220 Fillmore St.) in West Olive can be made by calling (616-994-4510) or going online.
