GRANDVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 30, 2025) – A school district whose boundaries go into the far eastern edge of Ottawa County will have busses running on Tuesday after a bomb threat was reported on Monday.
Superintendent Roger Bearup of Grandville Public Schools posted an online letter, to parents and families on the district’s website, saying that buses would be running as scheduled. This comes after an email, which arrived around 11:19 AM on Monday, stating that a bomb had been placed on a district school bus. “Out of an abundance of caution, we suspended bus transportation for the afternoon,” Bearup explained. Buses from Wyoming Public Schools handled the transportation load for the district as a result.
Police from both the Grandville and Grand Rapids departments, along with state police troopers, went through the fleet of buses at the district’s transportation center off of Kenowa Avenue, finding no sign of any explosive device. A closer look at the email indicated that the sender came from outside of the US, and detectives believe that this was a “swatting” situation, aimed at bringing out Special Weapons And Tactics teams out on an apparent false alarm.
Bearup added that there will be 24-hour surveillance of Grandville Public Schools’ transportation complex “for at least the remainder of this week.”
