HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 28, 2025) – Residents and visitors will have more time to enjoy one of Holland’s leading attractions this fall.
On Friday, city Parks officials announced that the season for Windmill Island Gardens will be extended two additional weeks, beyond the initial last day of October 5th. For the weekends of Oct. 10-12 and 17-19, the home of the venerable DeZwaan Windmill will be open at its usual hours (9:30 AM to 5 PM), and during the month of October, admission will not only remain free for residents in the 49423 and 49424 zip codes, but will be reduced to $5 for adults and free for youngsters.
The reason for the extension is record number of guests at the park in 2025, with over 170,000 already attending, and a seasonal visitor count of 180,000 is not out of the question. The previous best mark had been 146,248 two years ago.
Next weekend, as part of the Downtown Holland Fall Fest, there will be a “Touch a Truck” event on Saturday, October 4th, where the young and the young at heart can see, touch and hear a wide variety of construction equipment, emergency vehicles and other heavy-duty vehicles. There will also be hayrides, and staff will be showing how over 180,000 tulips for next year’s Tulip Time Festival are planted. Annual flower beds will be cleared for the arrival of the bulbs.
The park will again host its “Magic at the Mill” holiday light show during weekends in December, with public ticket sales set to begin for the fourth annual event on November 1st through this website.
