LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 25, 2025) – Joblessness dipped along the Lakeshore and across the state last month.
In numbers released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, the not seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for August in both Allegan and Ottawa counties stood at 4.6 percent. This tied them for 11th among the state’s 83 counties.
While these levels are down six tenths of a percentage point and eight tenths, respectively, from July’s marks, it is higher than a year ago, when the jobless rate was at 3.8 percent in Ottawa County and 3.9 percent in Allegan.
Statewide, this not seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was at five percent even in August, a full percentage point lower than in July, and virtually level with what was seen at this time in 2024. Total employment and payroll jobs increased, while workforce levels receded.
