BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 25, 2025) – An ongoing effort by Ottawa County to preserve farmland gets a financial boost on Thursday evening.
The ninth annual “Farms are the Tapas” fundraiser is set from 6-8 PM at The Red Shed & Byre 53 west of Hudsonville (5301 Barry St.) in which attendees sample dishes from seven area chefs, according to Farmland Preservation Analyst and event organizer Julie Lamer, who explained on a county podcast.
It’s all to raise funds for the Ottawa County Farmland Preservation Program, in which the county purchases the development rights of actively farmed property. It has protected nine such sites, totaling 733 acres, since it started in 2016, according to the county’s Agriculture & Economic Resources Coordinator Becky Huttenga.
While Farms are the Tapas is sold out, a silent online auction in conjunction with the event is available for anyone.
