ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 22, 2025) – A quiet summer weather-wise for much of Ottawa County ended with a proverbial bang on Saturday.
A line of storms, with winds of up to 60 miles per hour, went through Ottawa County during the evening hours, and some of the heaviest damage came in Zeeland. Assistant City Manager Kevin Plockmeyer noted that two large trees were uprooted in Lincoln Cemetery, with large branches and debris scattered throughout, and several headstones were damaged. No initial estimate of the cost for repairing those grave markers was made.
On Monday, Zeeland city officials announced a special storm debris pick up effort, slated to run through Friday. Residents will be asked to place tree limbs along street curbs for crews to pick up, and the Riley Street drop off site (8971 Riley) will be open daily until 3 PM for those who wish to take up the collection themselves, or if more debris is collected after crews make an initial swing through neighborhoods.
No other Lakeshore community had announced any similar plans following Saturday’s storm.
