Mary was born in Chicago September 24, 1949 to Jose Rudolfo and Maria (Soto) Orozco. She dedicated her life to education, earning her Teachers Certificate and Bachelor’s Degree from Grand Valley State University. She taught at Holland Public Schools, ESL in South Haven, but thoroughly enjoyed teaching special education. Teaching children and her family the value of education was used as the foundation of her life. She loved to travel, gardening, read, watch soap operas, do word searches, cook in her spare time, and dancing, but her most joy was always her family and family gatherings. From high school and college graduations, to just spending time with family, she cherished these times and could not have been more proud of her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary was preceded in death by a daughter Monica; her parents; siblings Victor Orozco Sr., Sergio Art Orozco; in-laws Edmundo Vergara, and Jose Vergara.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Francisco; children Micaela (Marcos Oviedo) Vergara, Juana (Most Amazing Most Beautiful) Vergara, Francisco T. “Pancho” Vergara; grandchildren Happy Most Beautiful and Fernando Francisco Aguilar; siblings Loretta (Arturo Gomez) Orozco, Paula Kay Orozco, and Anna (Gerard) Perales; brother and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A visitation to celebrate Mary’s life will be from 4-8pm Tuesday, September 23, 2025, with a brief prayer service beginning at 7pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland.
Memorial contributions in Mary’s honor may be made to the Holland Public Schools Special Education Program.
