HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 18, 2025) – Annual downtown assessments and another new recreational project were on the agenda for the Holland City Council on Wednesday evening.
During the biweekly business meeting, council members first approved a performance evaluation report for the just-completed Community Development Block Grant Program year. They then OK’d annual charges for downtown district property owners, maintaining the current rate for participating in the Principal Shopping District, while increasing the fee for snowmelt operations and maintenance, along with parking, by three percent.
Council was asked to vote on changing the city’s ordinances on requiring a security deposit for obtaining BPW electric and water services to align with changes in state law through the Michigan Revenue Bond Act, and the governing panel did approve those changes.
Finally, council endorsed a $700,000-plus contract with American Ramp Company to build a bike park on land just north of the Unity Bridge. The city’s Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, Garrett Thelen, explained the purpose of building up such a site.
The project should begin after Tulip Time next May, and be completed a year from now.
The Holland City Council’s business meeting was in Chambers at Holland City Hall. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
