HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 10, 2025) – Safety issues apparently continue to plague one of Holland’s two lithium-ion battery manufacturing facilities.
WOOD-TV is reporting that the Department of Public Safety has been called to LG Energy Solution plant off of East 48th Street twice since Saturday’s chemical spill that hospitalized 15 persons, including a summons yesterday morning. While this latest call was precautionary in nature, according to Captain of Operations Chris Tinney, safety discussions with plant officials of the South Korean-based manufacturer are ongoing.
The department and LG Energy Solution have been jointly planning for such situations ever since it opened in 2012.
In July, a South Korean national working at the plant lost his life in an apparent industrial accident involving automation equipment, with a Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s investigation into the incident ongoing.
It is not known how often safety situations have occurred at Holland’s other lithium-ion battery plant, operated by Clarios, which has been in operation for 15 years.
