HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 7, 2025) – A way to create awareness of alternate forms of transportation along the Lakeshore kicked off on Sunday.
The annual Green Commute Week, according to the organizing agency Macatawa Area Coordinating Council, focuses on, “how our communiting choices connect us, builds a heathier community, and creates a move vibrant future for all.” This would be through using non-motorized items such as bicycles or e-bikes, along with running or walking, in addition to other forms of transportation such as buses or car pools.
Jason Latham, executive director of the MACC, which consists of elected leaders from communities in and around the Holland/Zeeland area, stresses the importance of developing and encouraging such alternatives.
Alec Miller, the MACC’s Transportation Planner, admits that this is not a one-size-fits-all solution.
The MACC’s Green Commute Week activities, which runs through Saturday, began with a 4.5-mile bicycle trek by various leaders around and through the downtown Holland district on Sunday afternoon.
