HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 6, 2025) – It was a busy Saturday afternoon for Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Operations crews.
While some were assisting Park Township Fire Department Marine Unit members in rescuing a 20-year-old Dorr man from the waters of Lake Michigan after his kayak capsized, Tulip City firefighters were called about the same time (3:25 PM) to the LG Energy Solutions complex off of East 48th Street on a report of a “hazardous materials incident,” according to a statement from the city. Firefighters and other first responders noted a chemical spill within the facility, and immediately initiated several safety protocols, secured the scene, and safely evacuated the premises of employees.
The spill was contained on site, and specialized teams handled clean up operations to prevent any threat to the public outside of the immediate area, and to prevent any lingering after-effects of the incident. There were 15 staffers taken to “local hospitals” for treatment of non-life threatening ailments.
A cause of the spill is being investigated.
