UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 21, 2025) – Two of the Lakeshore’s bigger public school districts begin classes for Academic 2026 on Thursday.
School bells ring for the first time at Holland Public Schools, with a prevailing sense of anticipation, according to Superintendent Nick Cassidy.
The area’s biggest district by enrollment, West Ottawa Public Schools, also starts classes, with Superintendent Tim Bearden noting that instruction on the use of artificial intelligence will be new to students at West Ottawa High School.
In addition, Eagle Crest and Vanderbilt charter academies commences classroom instruction, as they join the Holland Christian, Hamilton Community and Fennville districts, along with Black River Public School, South Olive Christian School, Corpus Christi Catholic School and Borculo Christian School, all of which started the school year earlier this week. On Tuesday, classes at Saugatuck Public Schools and Calvary Schools of Holland get underway, followed by Zeeland Public Schools next Wednesday.
As for the institutions of higher education: Hope College welcomes new students to the dorms in Holland on Thursday, and classes begin at Hope, Grand Valley State, and Grand Rapids Community College on Monday.
