GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 14, 2025) – A reminder of the dangers the waters Lake Michigan poses came earlier this week.
Efforts at the scene to revive Isaiah Edmond after he floundered in the big lake near Grand Haven City Beach on Monday were unsuccessful. A friend and bystanders used a life ring to bring the 18-year-old Ohio man back to shore after he was seen struggling outside of the buoys that mark the swimming zone.
Sergeant Chris Reuwer heads the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol.
Grand Haven Public Safety officials said that Edmond was not wearing a life jacket.
According to the non-profit Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, 26 persons had lost their lives in Lake Michigan so far in 2025, including five off the shores of Michigan. Edmond’s death came nearly five weeks after 18-year-old Xavier Randolph of Ann Arbor dived off of a boat near Saugatuck and drowned.
