Lois Van Dis, age 86, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Lois (Loie) Ann Van Dis went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Loie was born on June 6, 1939 in Holland, Michigan. She graduated from Holland Christian Schools and worked for several businesses in Holland throughout her lifetime including DeWaard Interiors which was established by her parents.
In the 60’s Loie served as the Ottawa County Chapter President for the Muscular Dystrophy (MD) Association. This Cause was dear to Ben and Loie’s heart because two of their children were born with a rare form of MD.
Loie always enjoyed spending time with her family. Loie’s chocolate cake with special homemade white frosting was always a favorite with her family and friends.
Many people will remember Loie’s beautiful hand writing or her ability to play the piano by ear. Her friends at Quincy Place enjoyed listening and singing along to the old hymns that Loie would play on the piano. Those closest to Loie will always remember the cards that she sent by mail. Most of the time she would include more than one card or poem in an envelope to send to those who needed a dose of comfort or love. She and her dear friends exchanged hundreds of cards and prayers over her lifetime.
Through the years of personal health struggles Loie persevered at encouraging others. Her times in the hospitals offered opportunities to reach out to the staff who cared for her. Loie liked to befriend all who came across her path. Loie leaned on her faith and God’s promises throughout her life. She became very close to the ministry of Joni and Friends, which helps children with disabilities. Joni Eareckson Tada’s writings taught Loie deep lessons of faith even in the midst of pain or trial.
Loie was preceded in death by her dear husband, Benjamin Van Dis Jr, who passed away in May. Also preceded by two children, Douglas and Jeanne; parents Louis and Alma DeWaard; in-laws Ben & Irene Van Dis; a sister Elaine Van Dam; and a sister in- law Karyl Van Dis.
Loie is survived by her children, Laura & Mark Ebbers, Steve & Nancy Van Dis; grandchildren: Joel & Kara Ebbers, Anna & Matthew Beck, Leah & Joshua Mugford, Steven Guy Van Dis, Wilson Van Dis; 8 great grandchildren: Braeden & Emma Ebbers, Cora, Oliver & Bella Beck, Laura, Andrew & Ben Mugford. Siblings: Jim & Gloria DeWaard, Jack DeWaard, Bertus Van Dis, Pauline & Daryl Wabeke and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral is planned for 10:00 am on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Central Wesleyan Chapel, 446 W 40th St, Holland. Entrance G or D. Fellowship with the family will take place immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions in Loie’s honor may be given to the ministry of Joni & Friends at joniandfriends.org or by mail to 30009 Ladyface Ct., Agoura Hills, California 91301.
