David Bruce Frens M.D., 81, of Zeeland, Michigan, formerly of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Sun City West, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
David was born May 26, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Howard and Ruth (Jurgens) Frens. David graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, Calvin College, and the University of Michigan Medical School. He became a pediatric neurologist and practiced for 25 years at the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin. David married Sheila Lynne Meeuwsen in 1966, and they raised four daughters together. David also served active duty in the U.S. Air Force 1976-1978 and served as a reservist for eight years. His wife, Sheila, preceded him in death in 2022.
He is survived by his daughters: Danielle (Stephan) Hilbelink, Bethany Frens, Adrea (Simon) Nakatani, Courtney (Jason) Multerer; his grandchildren: Tessa Lander, Taylor Lander, Taeden Nakatani, Garrett (Grace) Hilbelink, Emma (Aaron) Bos, Miles Hilbelink, Calvin Hilbelink, Stella Multerer, Zander Multerer, and great-granddaughter Josie Hilbelink; his siblings: Mary and (Robert) Dykstra, Robert (Lynn) Frens; sister-in-law Barbara Meeuwsen, and many extended family members.
A memorial service in honor of David B. Frens M.D. will be held at 11:00 am, August 16, 2025, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visiting hours will be 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Aviation Fellowship (maf.org)
